Mission Statement
St. Jude Mission Ministry has 3 Catholic churches or chapels in two Eastern Kentucky Appalachian counties. St. Jude Church, in Louisa, is the center of the Mission. It is located on the Big Sandy River that seperates Kentucky and West Virginia. The Pastor of the Mission is Fr. Ralph W. Beiting. He is a diocesan priest of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington. He has been ordained for 55 years, 54 of which has been spent in Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian area. At 81 years of age he is still very active in serving the Catholic Church and all of God's people in Appalachia. St. Jude Mission, under the direction of Fr. Beiting, is to bring Christ alive in the families of his Catholic people and to serve Christ in the lives of all Appalachia people no matter what their religious background, their color, their nationality, or political persuasion. Many programs of evangelization are carried out; radio tapes, TV spots, Street preaching, Bible Schools, and distribution of literature. It also sponsors many acts of charity for all people, especially the poor. It operates a 20,000 square foot warehouse where food, clothing, toys, furniture, appliances, computers and building supplies are collected to assist the poor. It also creates jobs for the unemployed, conducts computer classes and has 4 rummage stores. It delivers part of all it receives to churches and charities of all kinds in both Kentucky and West Virginia. Like St. Paul, it strives to be all things to all people so that it may win some for Christ. It recruits volunteers to aid it in its many acts of charity. Some volunteers stay for a year or more. Others come only for days or weeks at a time. Its latest program is to furnish housing for 7 homeless families and assist them to grow so that in a year's time they can be on their own.
